Plan to Turn Fairuz’s Childhood Home into a Museum Finally Approved

Exciting news! The childhood home of our beloved icon Fairuz in Zokak El Blat is set to become a museum, celebrating her life and unmatched impact on Lebanon’s culture.

بيت فيروز

For years, many have called for this historic house to be preserved as a cultural landmark. Now, after decades of neglect by successive governments, real progress is finally being made. The Lebanese Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the National Heritage Foundation, has committed to restoring the house from the ground up. According to Annahar’s Jad Fakih, plans include purchasing the land and transforming the space into a museum that honors Fairuz’s legacy as a Lebanese icon and artistic legend.

While the Minister of Culture has given the green light, the biggest challenge remains—securing the necessary funding to bring this vision to life and establish Fairuz’s home as a cultural landmark for all.

Neglected and abandoned, Fairuz’s Childhood Home still holds hidden treasures. This architectural gem, dating back to the 19th-century Ottoman era, is a living piece of Beirut’s memory. It’s where Fairuz was born, raised, and spent her early years with her family. With arched windows, a garden filled with loquat trees, and an ancient water fountain, the house embodies old Beirut’s charm. However, its walls, ceilings, tiles, and doors are in dire need of restoration.
