Amman Cable Car Sparks Contreversy on X: Here are the Reactions!

The Amman Cable Car project is no longer just a project on paper. After demolition and preparation works began in Downtown Amman ahead of construction, the project quickly caught people’s attention on X. And, as expected, the reactions are mixed. Some are curious about the new attraction and what it could bring to the city, while others are questioning the demolitions, the impact on residents, the cost of the project, and what it could mean for the character of Downtown Amman.

1. “What’s the story behind the demolition of the Al Mahatta complex? And today, the Greater Amman Municipality started demolishing buildings in Downtown Amman to build a cable car??? Who is funding these projects? Where is the money coming from? And what’s being given in return?

2. “Seriously, half the buildings in Downtown are already empty. I honestly don’t understand why they’re sitting vacant. Instead of letting them go to waste, why not put them to good use? Walk through Downtown from one end to the other and you’ll see that half the houses and commercial buildings are abandoned. They should do something useful with them instead of leaving them looking run-down, neglected and lifeless.”

3. “But these neighborhoods are densely populated.”

4. “A great view of the water tanks.”

5. “And someone who’s been living there for 20 years is just supposed to leave?”

6. “it’s heartbreaking. These are people’s livelihoods.”

7.“Buildings in Downtown Amman are being demolished ahead of the Amman Cable Car project… Where are these people supposed to go? Have they been compensated? Have they been provided with housing? Are these homes even illegal?”

8. “Honestly, we don’t need a cable car. What Amman needs are flyovers and bridges to help deal with the traffic. Who exactly is benefiting from this project, and which company is behind it, especially given how expensive it is?”

9. “Forget everything else. What about the houses around the Roman Theatre and the Citadel? How are people supposed to live normally when cable car passengers will be able to see straight into their homes? Are women supposed to stay covered up at home, or keep their curtains shut all day? An archaeology expert said just last week that putting a cable car from the Citadel down to the plaza would be a huge mistake because the Citadel is an archaeological site.”

10. “Amman’s expansion is eventually going to reach the point where entire streets and wider areas are demolished, just like in other cities around the world. Hopefully everyone affected will receive fair compensation and housing, because apartment, house and land prices are already ridiculously high.”

11. “So basically, they’re going to clear everything out and send us to the desert.”

12. Of all the places they could’ve chosen, they had to put a cable car over people’s homes?”

As construction moves forward, we’ll have to wait and see whether the cable car becomes one of Amman’s newest attractions — and what the city will look like from above.
