The joy you feel when graduating high school or university is immeasurable, most because sadly, we don’t know what exactly is awaiting us post-graduation! That being said, graduation is a time of celebration and happiness in ones life, and Jordanian families do exactly that.
One of the most notable ways Jordanians celebrate graduation is by throwing a bash directly after the ceremony. The graduate arrives with the robe still on to a party with family, friends, and loved ones all with the following gifts in hand.
1) Money, money, money
Anywhere between 5 and 20 dinars that you either get sneakily given or you get in a white envelope. The graduate will always fake rejecting the money (although they’re secretly thrilled), until they finally accept.
2) Knafeh or Chocolates from Al-Fursan
Graduation happiness calls for a 5 kilo tray of knafeh from the finest sweets shops in Amman. No time to hunt down good knafeh? Chocolates from Al-Fursan in a fancy vase are the way to go!
3) A set of glassware
As a graduate, what the heck am I expected to do with glassware? This is either a gift intended for the graduates parents, or a re-gift! Either way, it’s a bust for the student.
