12 Characters You’ll Find On Social Media In Jordan

There’s no getting around the fact that social media has become an integral part of our daily life. From Facebook and Instagram to Twitter and the now dead Snapchat, here are the most common Jordanians you’ll find on social media.

1. The fashionista

You’re sure to have spotted this individual posing in three or four different outfits every day. Providing commentary on brands and sharing the latest trends as though they’re spokespeople for Givenchy, this character will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it — and if they have makeup skills, rest assured you’ll be suffering through dozens of live videos a week.

2. The life coach

This person read maybe one or two self help books before deciding that they were going to spread the wisdom. They will make you suffer through ten inspirational quotes a day, supplementing them with selfies and rate cards for their “workshops”.

3. The sports commentator

Classico, World Cup, Premier League, friendlies…this person knows everything about every football game happening and will be sure to share the info. They also won’t shy away from critiquing different players and coaches, even though the only form of exercise they do is walking from the kitchen to the couch.

4. The weather commentator

A storm is coming. Possibility of everyone getting snowed in. Fake WhatsApp forwards about the severity of the storm…all that and more from your local weather commentator.

5. The political aficionado

This person is up to speed on any and everything happening in Jordan at all times. They’ll read Ammon, Rum, Khaberni, and every other blog or outlet they can get their hands on before they unleash their findings in one well packaged intensely long Facebook post. They’ll typically end up in jail before they hit their first 5 likes.

6. The head of the Civil Service Bureau

This person doesn’t really work for the CSB, but still enlightens us with 600 posts a day advertising a variety of different jobs. Truth be told, this is probably the only useful person you’ll find on social media.

7. A Jordanian Sheikh

This person is know for their perfect command of Jordanian Arabic and their ability to recite lengthy poems on a whim. Jaha? Atwa? No problem, this person can help.

8. The religious one

Irrespective of their religion, this person will constantly instill the fear of God in you.

9. The gossip

Known for spreading rumors, people-watching, and blabbing, you can’t get anything past this person. From who married whom to what the neighbor’s cousin served for brunch, they’ve got all the details.

10. Ibn Battuta

Either this person lives at the airport or just wants us to think they do. Expect dozens of shots of their passport and a Starbucks coffee letting us know they’re jet-setting yet again. If they happen to be athletic, you’re screwed because you can expect tens of yoga poses flooding your feed.

11. The clown

The comedian who gives you your daily dose of jokes, sarcasm, and memes.

12. Osama el Sayed/ Manal Alalem

The chefs who continuously wow us with their skills! They’ll have you either drooling or gagging after every post, depending on your luck.
