We’ve all seen the videos of Jordan’s King leaving Swefieh Village, but do you know where he went for lunch? We found the spot! Meet Yugen, Jordan’s first omakase sushi bar, tucked away in Amman’s Swefieh Village.
Yugen brings Japanese cuisine and local flavors together in a way you don’t see every day. Led by chef Mohammad Jehad, the restaurant serves seasonal dishes made with carefully selected ingredients. Some of the fish is imported directly from Japan, while other fish comes straight from the Dead Sea. You’ll also find a Jordanian twist on the menu, with local flavors like za’atar and sumac adding something different to the experience. Don’t miss out on the seaweed tabbouleh and chocolate Falafel!
If you’re new to omakase, it’s a dining experience where you let the chef choose what you eat. At Yugen, that means a 15-course meal prepared by chef Mohammad Jehad right in front of you. You get to watch him work while trying a series of dishes made with the freshest seasonal ingredients.
The restaurant has just 26 seats, with 20 available for à la carte dining and six reserved for the omakase counter. The limited omakase seatings make it a more intimate experience for anyone who wants to try something different.
Not in the mood for a full omakase meal? You can also order from the à la carte menu.
Planning to check it out? Make sure to book ahead, especially if you want to try the 15-course omakase experience, as reservations are a must.
